Since Oakton’s new member training on October 1st, Patrick Kelly has been plowing ahead at full steam. “My Y St. experience so far has been great, I’ve loved every minute of it,” Patrick told me, and it’s shown.
After just 3 months, Patrick has completed 4 projects and collected over 120 message stickers. “My favorite part is that we actually go out and talk to people, that we aren’t just making flyers or saying that we will do something, but actually going out and doing it.” I’ve seen Patrick in action, and he definitely walks the walk. With Oakton High School being a popular polling place on election day, Oakton Y St-ers set up a table that morning and talked to anyone willing to give them a chance. Patrick was fearless in his approach! Old, young, friendly or not- he introduced himself to everyone and talked about Y St. and Meltdown.
Patrick also attended the governor’s press conference about the smoking ban on December 1st and led the charge in introducing himself and the other Y St-ers to the governor.
Despite the winter break and cold weather, Patrick won’t be slowing down any time soon. “I’m just excited to get back at it. I would love to see Oakton Y St-ers start doing more. If we could have another event, that would be great!”
